Bungonia derives from an Aboriginal word meaning 'sandy creek'
Bungonia was originally called Inverary. A post office opened at Inverary in 1832 and was renamed Bungonia in 1836. When the Great Southern Road (now the Hume Highway) bypassed the town, it ceased to grow beyond a small village.
In the 2006 census, Bungonia had a population of 258 people.

BUNGONIA HEIGHTS UHF Radio Repeater now 'on air'
Bungonia Heights UHF Radio Repeater was 'turned on' today (Monday 28 June 2010) in an attempt to improve two-way radio communications in the area.
Because this Repeater is on a 'Private' frequency, you will only be able to broadcast and receive on this frequency if you can program your current (or future) UHF radio into the required frequencies.
The Transmit (Tx) frequency is 472.600 and the Receive (Rx) frequency is 477.800
You are all welcome to use this private frequency for your day to day use - as long as it isn't for commercial use or being used in an offensive manner.
If you are about to invest in a UHF CB Radio - please be aware that ACMA (Australian Communications & Media Authority) are about to announce that the old 40 channel UHF CB will be obsolete in 5 years and that the new standard of 76 channel UHF CB radios will be the norm.
So don't just go out and buy a standard 40 channel UHF CB radio because you will be missing out on the rest of the channels when they become available. If you do buy a new UHF CB radio, ensure that it is fully programmable, it is able to transmit at a power of at least 5 watts and the channels can be programmed 12.5khz apart. That way, you will be able to take advantage of all of the 76 UHF CB channels as well as the Bungonia Heights Repeater frequency.
At this time, the Repeater has been successfully used to speak from Bungonia Hts to Goulburn township. There is a good clear overage along O'Allen Ford Road (from the intersection of Lumley Rd) south to Windellama.
In the future, I will be endeavouring to improve the coverage to the east and north.
If you require any further information - don't hesitate to contact Cal.

The Market Day saw a steady throng of people walking around the markets from around 8.30am until after 2pm.
Weather wise, the day was great and many people were seen to be leaving the Markets with various things under their arms or in their bags.
As the years progress we would hope to have a better quality of some of the type of items that were for sale.
All in all - it was great to see such a great crowd turn out in such wonderful weather conditions.
We thank the organisers, vendors, Quilters, CWA & all the other organisations that went into making today a great day.

Bungonia Heights Bush Fire Management Plan is finally submitted
Over the past two months - Committee Members had Drafted the Bungonia Heights Bush Fire Management Plan with the able assistance of Mark Sumich who put the document together and we thank Mark for the effort & work he put into the Draft in v1.
The Draft Plan went from v1 to v4 and is now a finalised and a working document that was unanimously adopted by the 5 members of the Committee who attended the meeting and also by the two weekenders who had earlier agreed with the document.
Rob Mepham has decided that he no longer wished to participate in the Committee & was not involved in this voting process.
The 'Plan' has now been forwarded to the RFS as a working document and I will let you all know, in the near future, what stems from this document.
